Minor Emergency

These days, primary care physicians are often unable to see patients on the same day on an urgent basis, and emergency room visits can be very expensive, with long waiting times.  Island Health Center can address many minor emergency injuries and ailments affordably, and much faster than the over-crowded emergency room where employees are often over-worked and under-staffed.  At Island Health Center, our patients are seen on a walk-in basis - first come, first served, and by medical priority.

Here are some of the urgent care issues we can address:

  • Lacerations
  • Fractures
  • Sprains, Strains
  • Splinters
  • Eye Injuries
  • Fish Hooks
  • Jellyfish Stings
  • Minor Burns
  • Automobile accident injuries (minor)
  • Back pain
  • Allergic reactions
  • Urinary & gynacological infections
  • Laboratory & blood testing
  • Vomiting, diarrhea
  • Rashes
  • Work injuries

If you have a more serious or significant illness or injury, we may re-direct you to the UTMB Emergency Room.  More specifically, where you require services or specialist care not available at Minor Emergency Clinics.  We are not equipped to handle life-threatening emergencies, for example cardiac arrest, internal bleeding, loss of consciousness.  For these types of conditions, please call 911, an ambulance, or go to the ER, located on the north side of the island on Harborside Drive.
